Church Street, Great Dunmow

Church Street, Great Dunmow

This was a particularly sensitive site for a replacement building next to a Grade I listed church. As well as the church, other issues that needed to be taken into account were a listed wall running along the boundary of the church yard, and a number of mature trees which needed to be retained, undamaged.

The siting of the dwelling was particularly challenging, and the traditional design vital to avoid any ‘jarring’ effect of a new dwelling, and to satisfy the requirements of the local authority’s conservation officer.

An archaeological dig was carried out on the site prior to the works starting however nothing of any merit was found.
