The property comprises a pair of cottages, within the grounds of a Grade II listed country house on the outskirts of the Suffolk village of Clare. The central cottage is believed to date from the early 18th Century. The western single bay cottage is believed to date from the late 18th Century. The remaining cottage and Stable are believed to date from the early 19th Century. The cottages are not listed in their own right but, as they form part of the adjoining estate, are considered to be curtilage listed. The cottages were in a very poor state of repair having been unoccupied for in excess of forty years.
The design of the proposed extension to the cottage aims to echo the local simple vernacular style and would have a shallow pitched roof to enable the use of clay pantiles with a selection of rendered, and brick and flint external wall finishes. The accommodation comprises on a single level, open oak porch, leading to an entrance hall, sitting room, breakfast/kitchen area, cloak room, family bathroom, master bedroom with dressing room and en-suite bathroom and two further bedrooms. The alterations also include a two-bay open cart shed.
Planning permission and Listed Building Consent for the proposed alterations were granted consent in 2016.
