The new award-winning four-bedroomed house replaced an out-dated, and rather small Edwardian property constructed of unattractive Fletton brickwork. The design was the winner of the regional Local Authority Building Control awards in 2009. The house was of a traditional form, but with a high specification which ensured good energy-saving. The client wanted a good-looking, but eco-friendly home. We designed the timber-framed house, and the frame was constructed by  Scandiahus, a Swedish company which specialises in timber frames.

Another European organisation – the German company Glatthaar Fertigkeller – constructed the pre-cast concrete basement, which is the same size as the building’s footprint. It substantially increases the accommodation in the house, and houses a plant room, wine cellar, study and workshop, as well as supplying storage space.
