Work experience

We were recently delighted to welcome, a Year 10 student from Sawston Village College to Ian Abrams Architect for a week of work experience. As our first work experience student for several years, she brought enthusiasm, curiosity and a proactive approach to her time with the practice. At the end of the placement, we were very grateful to receive her thoughtful leaving gifts, including a delicious cake.

Reflecting on her placement, she shared the following comments:

‘I am very grateful that I was given the opportunity to work at Ian Abrams Architect practice for my work experience placement. As someone who has been keen on pursuing architecture as a career for a very long time, being given the opportunity to do a placement was really exciting.

I was given a project in which I had to create a building for a client, following their needs in a particular area. This task was challenging, but I was given a lot of support and guidance throughout my project. I created a mood board and did a site visit so I could really understand where my building would be. I also got to use platforms to create my building in 3D, such as SketchUp, and created a couple of mood boards so I could really think about my design.

Being able to create a building and have support if needed was really useful. After working at the firm and learning about the exciting projects the architects had been working on, I felt more confident and ready to take on my next steps in my path through architecture’.
