This typical Essex timber barn is located on the outskirts of Great Dunmow. The Grade II listed barn is formed in a traditional rectangle shape plan, with the main farmhouse to the southwest of the site with a range of outbuildings to the northeast. A contemporary rear single storey extension provides accommodation for the open plan kitchen/breakfast area. The existing timber frame was repaired and new oak frame members inserted where necessary. The barn was converted to be suitable for modern day living, whilst preserving the historic fabric of the building. The elevational treatment of the existing barn is retained within the design. Fenestration is located to utilise existing openings to retain the character of the site, with new openings kept to a minimum.
The accommodation comprises, living/dining room, snug, breakfast/kitchen area, utility room and second bedroom with en-suite shower room on the ground floor the master bedroom and en-suite shower room on the first floor. The living/dining area is a full height space, providing views of the entire structure of the barn.
