Cottage extension and alterations – Saffron Walden, Essex.

This Grade II listed 16th‑century property sits within Saffron Walden’s historic conservation area. The completed works sensitively enhanced the building’s character while adapting it for modern living.

Unsympathetic 20th‑century additions were removed and replaced with carefully detailed extensions that respected the historic fabric and local vernacular. Traditional materials, including render, clay plain tiles and timber joinery, were combined with contemporary Crittall‑style rear doors to clearly express the building’s evolution.

The project delivered an improved kitchen/dining space, a new bedroom suite, a more efficient internal layout, and upgraded windows and doors, all achieved with minimal impact on significant historic fabric.
