Farmhouse alterations – Saffron Walden – Essex

This Grade II listed farm house is located near to the Essex market town of Saffron Walden. The farmhouse ceased being part of the working farm around 2004 and is now a family home. From that date, the property has been in need of sensitive restoration to bring the house up to modern day living standards.

The house has four first floor bedrooms and only a single-family bathroom with no en-suite bathroom facilities. The Boot Room/Utility Room and ground floor ancillary accommodation were also poorly planned. During the design process there were many discussions with the local Conservation Officer and the client to agree the most appropriate way forward to satisfy all the requirements.

The proposals included; the construction of a two-storey rear extension providing additional ancillary accommodation on the ground floor and improved bathroom facilities on the first floor, including a new secret door from the master bedroom into the new en-suite bathroom.  A new rear Garden Room provides views of the private landscaped gardens and pond.

The completed renovations and improvements secure this 16 Century property as a warm and welcoming family home for future generations.
