New house, Berden

Planning permission was granted in early 2016 by Uttlesford District Council for a new detached house in the Essex village of Berden, near Bishop’s Stortford. The new five bedroom house is located adjacent to a Grade II listed house on the outskirts of the village. Particular attention to the design of the new house was therefore needed to ensure the setting of the listed building was retained. The house has a painted render finish to the external walls, sitting on a red facing brickwork plinth with a selection of traditional timber casement and rise and fall sash windows, all under a steeply pitched clay plain tiled roof. Adjacent to the house is a two bay detached timber framed cart shed with accommodation above to the first floor.
