Where once there was a sprawling, unattractive bungalow, there now stands a new large, very comfortable four-bedroomed house that makes the most of the views and vistas from this splendid hilltop spot. Our clients’ delight in their new home is the cherry on top of the cake. The house was finished in the summer of 2013. The four-acre site is particularly good, with excellent westerly views, so full-height fold-back glazed screen face that way. We’re reliably informed by our clients that, with a glass in hand, it’s the best sunset view in Britain!
Getting planning permission for this site near Little Hadham was a challenge, but after negotiations with East Herts District Council planning department, permission was granted. There are three bedrooms on the first floor, with family and en-suite bathrooms. On the ground floor there is a sitting room, the kitchen and breakfast area, utility room, study and guest bedroom with an en-suite shower room. The large fold-back windows on the gable end of the kitchen and breakfast area allow daylight to flood in, as well as giving great views of the countryside.
But our far-seeing clients wanted substance as well as style, so sensible energy-saving mechanisms were incorporated, Insulation values of the fabric of the house were designed to exceed those required under the Building Regulations. Heating and hot water is served by a ground source heat pump.
