Rectory Stables is one of three properties located in the grounds of Wicken House, in Wicken Bonhunt just west of Newport near Saffron Walden. The site was originally owned by Essex County Council and used as an educational centre. Sold in 2007, planning permission and Listed Building consent were granted for residential use in 2009, comprising the alterations and extension to the Victorian Coach House (now named Rectory Stables), a new dwelling to replace the small 1960’s flat roof caretakers house and the renovation of the main property on the site, Wicken House is a Grade II listed property.
The alterations carried out to the Coach House included the demolition of a timber framed flat roof rear extension and the subsequent construction of a two story extension and basement area to provide a 4 bedroom family home set in the grounds of a splendid Grade II listed Victorian house.
